A Message from Toys for Bob

An important note from the developers of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy

By Activision Staff on August 16, 2018

Everyone here at Toys for Bob is so proud to be reigniting the original Spyro trilogy after all these years. We're deeply committed to getting these games right, so we’ve decided to move the release date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy to November 13, 2018. I really hoped that you would be rescuing dragons and scorching Rhynocs sooner, but the Trilogy needs more love and care.  In November when you’re exploring the Dragon Realms, Avalar and the Forgotten Worlds, we know you’ll agree the extra time was worth the wait.

The adventure continues,

Paul Yan
Co-Studio Head

Are, uh... Are you guys sure this is a great idea? I mean, I can understand the need tp delay the game but...

The new release date means it lands in the same week as Pokemon. Is that really competition you want?

Level 1

Please take the time to release the collection with all three games on the physical disc. I really want to support this remake as it looks amazing. Keep up the good work

Level 1

Hope this extra time means you'll be able to uncensor the guns (e.g. in Twilight Harbor and Scorch) as well as anything else you've censored.

Can't stand censorship in any form.  If you don't address it, then I'm not buying it.

Level 1

Please use this extra time to include the complete trilogy on the disc! I really want this to be as perfect as possible.

Level 1

Some extra time to polish the game is great. It should be as good as can be by release.

Sadly though, having to download the other two games instead of including them on the disk just kinda ruins it all.

So excited to play these new versions of Spyro! Delays are always a bummer but please take the time that you need to make them awesome!

Level 1

@PinkiesPartyPals That wouldn't be competition. If the games were similar, there would be a problem, but they're not even the same market and they're on separate consoles.

Spyro has nothing to worry about.

@Lucifronz Unfortunately, genre is not the only reason people buy games. What if someone likes platformers AND rpgs, and onlybhas money for one game? What if a mother is buying a gift for her child, and doesn't know what they like? Being different genres may lessen the competition, but it is still competition.

Also, everyone needs to stop with the "Only one game on disk" nonsense. NOWHERE does it say that games two and three are not on the disk, only that they "require download"; as in, they require a day one patch to play. People have proved this using the disk size: the initial disk install is about 36 GB. The box claims you need 50 GB for the game, and that includes any patches. If the patch was actually downloading two entire games, the initial install would not be that large. Unless you all are claiming Spyro 1 is OVER 30 GB, while Spyro 2 and 3 combined are LESS than 20 GB.

Level 1

@PinkiesPartyPals What you don't seem to understand is that those people will always have a preference. The games don't compete because the person would always choose whichever they prefer over the other: turn-based RPG or 3D platformer?

I know in my case I'd always choose Spyro Reignited over a Pokemon game, even if it weren't Let's Go with a gimped selection of Pokemon to choose from.

Other people would agree, others would choose Pokemon, others would choose neither. The people who can't choose between the two are a minority and will be swayed by other factors (graphics, total content/playtime, etc.).

Level 1

@PinkiesPartyPals Oh and the website itself says that 2 and 3 REQUIRE an update in order to use. That doesn't mean they're not on the disc, but it does mean that even if they are, you can't access them until this is changed.

I don't know why you brought that up, though. Just a general comment?

So, you're sayin the games don't compete because people will choose one or the other? What? That literally is what sales competition is.

(And no, the disk comment was not aimed at you, but a few other commentors. However, if you read my comment, you will see that I indeed said that they require A download to play. However, there is a big difference between having to download a patch to play a game, and having to download two entire games; especially with the most ignorant of people trying to claim they'll be locked behind a code and that this is a fight against used games.

Yes, this DOES mean that you require an internet connection at first to play them, but so what? If you have zero access to any sort of internet connection, honestly you probably shouldn't have a console.)

Level 1

@PinkiesPartyPals I'm saying, genius, they don't compete in the way you're suggesting. Just because Pokemon is coming out at the same time doesn't mean the sales hit will be significant enough to warrant caution.

You think that people wouldn't hold off spending money in September just to buy Pokemon if they wanted it? A couple months closer will change nothing, even if there were reason to be concerned.

But whatever. You're under the impression that two games releasing at the same time on totally separate systems (no overlap) will somehow affect sales and I can't convince you otherwise, but I would remind you that not everyone owns both a Switch and a PS4/Xbox One and most of those who do made their decisions of what to buy on those systems a long time ago.

A change in date won't change anything. They can literally pre-order both right now. They've got time to order if they want to.

@Lucifronz I'm sorry you feel the need to insult me in order to get your point across.

I never said how big of a hit there would be to their sales, however to think this change will have zero effect at all is flawed thinking. Even if the hit is not that big, Activision and TFB should still be cautious, especially considering whatever hit they take will be in addition to the hit they may take from the recent disk "controversy".

Level 1

Truthfully I think this date is better because now they're not only polishing the game but also avoiding big PS4 exclusives of Dragon Quest XI and Spider-man for September and PS4 exclusive Fist of the North Star and Red Dead Redemption 2 in October. Plus the kids are going back to school in September and SPYRO would have been forgotten and now it's closer to the holiday season and kids will want it for Christmas.

Level 1

I do like the updates, but here she looks less of a faun, and more of a anrtho deer, not that there is anything wrong with that, but a Faun is supposed to be HALF deer and HALF HUMAN(human in the top). The only thing that makes me know she is a faun, is the bit of naked skin on her mouth. I know you guys are working really hard from the ground up, and I respect that. I like the redesigns to Hunter and money bags. But can you please give elora more of a human upper half so she looks MORE like a faun? Everything else about her is great!!! And I hope to see more from you guys in the future, bye!!!
