I have a 36" and I'm about 4 to 5 feet away from it.
What do you think a good distance is and for what size tv?
We have a 42" and a 40" wall mounted right next to each other in our bedroom and a rocker/recliner loveseat at the end of our bed, which is about five or six feet away from the tvs. Works out for us fairly well.
The wife and I are by no means 'pro', and we play for the fun (although we are competitive, haha), but I've heard/read that the smaller the screen the less movement you need to get on target and the 'quicker' you would be. *shrugs* haha
I don't know if its the distance so much as your peripheral vision. What do you have around your tv and etc can matter for some. I prefer closer or a bigger tv. I was playing on a 47" Visio from like 2 feet away, but now I play on a smaller tv from further away and I sort of miss the bigger screen.
I have debated for a couple of months moving my Xbox downstairs to the 55" tv, but the wife likes gaming right next to me (hence why we have the setup we do in our bedroom, haha.)
I play on a 42 inch and sid aprox 5 feet away with my head centered to the center of the TV. So I think you are about right. Pros play on a 22 inch and sit about 2-3 feet away from the screen.
These are a rough guideline chart I found to be quite useful, but really it's down to personal preference.
For high definition 1080p go for the lowest end of the scale and sit as close as possible to get full advantage of the great picture. For high definition 720p go for the low to medium end of the scale and sit slightly further away. For standard definition sit closer to the top end of the scale, if the picture quality is poor then it is better to sit further away from the screen.
I have a 43" Samsung tv, so I guess it will be the same range for a 42" tv.
Around 5-6ft away from my tv.
The lower distance quoted for each monitor is based on the resolution of the mark 1 eyeball, closer than the shorter distances and you start seeing individual pixels (1080p). I'm 9feet from my 46" screen and these distance tables keep making me think I should upsize the screen or rearrange the room. Reality dictates I go for my second favourite of the options.
24in Gaming Monitor - I'm less than three feet away. Though it's part of a three monitor setup.
I game and work in the same location. (Dedicated Office)
