This is a lie.
Black Ops 2 pre-caches the textures - reads them into memory before the match starts. Therefore it has nothing to do with the data transfer rate.
The install is a good option to cut down on wear and tear on your Blu-Ray drive.
Wish people would stop spreading lies about it.
Bit harsh to say "wish people would stop spreading lies about it" when all they are doing is sharing their own experience - which I'm guessing you know nothing about unless you're with them.
Nobody knows why these freezes are happening so until we do all people can do is share what happen to them.
I installed the Textures before I ever played a single game of Black Ops 2 - I've played almost 40 hours of MP and have had 5 to 6 hard freezes - most happening right after game winning killcam as said by many others.
I also installed before a single match. I've only had three freezes, but two of them were on the match loading screen with "Loading textures" in the bottom left corner, (third freeze I didn't notice). Just coincidence?
I HAD freezes at start of game like that - but not since 1.03 I believe.
So it caches almost 2 gig of textures in 256mb of ram?
That's some amazing compression.
It only Pre-caches the textures it needs for the map you are going to play on next - not all the textures for every map in the game.
I had this explained to me by David Vonderhaar in person so thats a pretty good source.
I deleted them and am now not crashing at the end of every match
I installed and the only issue I'm having is the game freezing right after a game winning kill cam. It's happened 2 times since I installed it a week or 2 ago. So that's 10 times better than all the freezes I used to get.
Personally I'm glad I installed it.
Hey Sully, I've only had 2 screen freezes too, both after the Killcam too. I've installed the textures from day 1. Both freezes only happened in the last week.
