BF4 uses dedicated servers whereas this game is still using P2P for match making and hosting. That is the simple reason why connections are all over the place. Unless you or a friend you game with is always picked as host then you're rarely going to have the same host for a lot of games so it's just down to sheer luck if you have a decent connection to the host. Or even if the hosts connection is any good in the first place.
Until the ACTUALLY give us dedicated servers we'll be stuck in the same situation with every release.
I'm monitoring my connection to the host during the game and the connection seems good and stable in most cases but I'm still getting lag - so my concern is that the lag I'm suffering from is not just network related but something else in the game. I posted some of my monitor info to the thread a while ago - although it has only just been released by moderators.
I've made this comment numerous times - there is some sort of weird engine lag or sync issues with the game. It's been present since BO1 and seems to be getting worse. I've no idea what's causing it. Maybe the age of the engine. Go play offline against bots and you will see that you still get the horrible "insta death" issue.
Starbuck - lag compensation doesn't add delay.
That's pretty much what the game is like for me on the 360.
This pretty much convinces me that we were lied to about dedicated servers. There is simply no way we should be experiencing the amount of lag we get if we were on dedicated servers. I'm from the UK and I've played a number of games on dedi servers with no issues yet I have issues on this game, so either the servers are EXTREMELY RUBBISH or we simply haven't got them.
I've played this game on the 360 and PS4 and now I've seen X1 footage and it all runs exactly the same. So there are clearly massive issues with the game.
I think host selection is one problem. I regularly game with 2 friends. One has fibre broadband, the other has regular ADSL. Yet this game has a habit of picking
