My perfect COD

DSDDE

What I'd like to change if I had the power to do so, in no particular order.

1. No more quickscoping. No need for a debate, it's a fact that this is absurd. You should only be able to scope in from a crouched or prone position. Time to add some realism to what has become an out of control exploit, snipers are heavy and manuevering them while on the move within the game should reflect this. Provide larger maps so that snipers can use their weapons as designed. Also, it should no longer be possible for a sniper to remain scoped in once shot. Of all the absurd elements of the COD franchise, the fact that someone can maintain their ability to scope in while getting shot might be the most absurd and unrealistic.

2. Drop shotting and jumping to avoid being shot needs to end. The act of going prone should take a minimum of 1.5-2 seconds. Once fully prone another 1.5-2 seconds should be required before a player is able to reposition their weapon and begin to fire. Jumping should all but eliminate your chances of landing a shot on an enemy.

3. No more music EVER while a game is in progress. It's distracting and serves no purpose whatsoever. Also, the sound notifications when you rank up or complete challenges need to go as well.

4. In MW3 predators are almost always centered on the top player in the room. I routinely have the highest K/D in the lobby, and I've noticed that by far the majority of the time when an enemy calls in a predator it's centered directly on me when they first open up the laptop. I've also noticed that when I use predators I often end up killing players with high K/D's. This is something built in to help "balance" the game, clearly. But in reality it's just a punishment for being good, it needs to end.

5. Killstreak rewards should be VERY difficult to shoot down or destroy. I typically use the Pavelow in MW3, two shots from a stinger take it down immediately, sometimes one. This is absurd. Twelve kills in a row and in literally less than 5 seconds your killstreak is destroyed? No, there's no logic there. At the very least the time it takes a launcher to lock on should be DRASTICALLY increased. Instead of the 2-3 seconds it takes to lock on as is, it should be changed to 8-10 seconds AND require a minimum of three rounds. Yes, this means that more than one person on a team should be required to help bring down choppers of any type. It's called team work and it's about time people start to learn what that means. I run a stealth class 99 percent of the time but I still make my secondary a stinger to help the team. Many of my deaths result in me trying to shoot down killstreaks because nobody else bothers to. Require more than one person to help out and this will change. Even if one person does end up having to take down air support on their own (they fire two rounds, die, and fire another), this would still require around 30 seconds to accomplish. If you earn a higher valued killstreak 30 seconds of use should be automatic, so this is fair.

6. Killstreaks should not contribute to higher killstreaks, but EVERYTHING should count towards one. Assists, shooting down air support, destroying claymores, TI, or any other type of equipment etc. Even situations such as a teammate has been stunned and you come to their rescue and take out the enemy for them. Every action involving team work should be rewarded, and not just by some useless challenge.

7. Those who use grenade launchers should be limited to a set number of rounds per MATCH. This will help reduce the amount of "noob tubing", which has plagued this game for too long. I understand the purpose of the attachment in real life, but in a video game kills should require more than one push of a button aimed in a general direction. No more than three rounds per match per player.

8. Upon spawning each player is invincible to everything other than gun fire for 3 seconds. Quite often I'll spawn, run a few steps and die from a claymore, or right into the path of a grenade or flash bang. Highly annoying and using this system it would be a thing of the past.

9. No more akimbo OR fix hit detection. The combination of akimbo and horrible hit detection is brutal. Kills are handed out unfairly because of this, AIMING should be a requirement, not an afterthought.

10. Ability to swap out iron sights. At times there are guns that I'd like to use, but I just cant get over how horrible the iron sights are. If you could change the sight to something you prefer, you'd be more eager to try new weapons.

11. Getting shot first should make it nearly impossible to return fire accurately.

12. No death streaks.

13. K/D is not impacted in any way when playing objective based games. This would lead to more people caring about the actual result, not protecting their stats.

14. The return of specialist/support/assault killstreaks

15. The return of unlimited sprint using Marathon, as it was in MW2

16. Gun shots, silenced or unsilenced should NOT show up on the minimap. Players should have to rely on their concentration and ability to determine where the firing is coming from.

17. Viewing the minimap should only be available as a killstreak.

18. Assign a different kill total, or point total, to each killstreak. Players should be able to select any killstreaks they want, not have to exclude certain rewards because two selections have the same number of kills/points associated with them. For example in MW3 I believe nine kills in a row is reaper/overwatch/strafe run. You should be able to select all three as your rewards if you wish. Stop limiting us to what we can select, this game should be about more options, not less.

19. Return of night vision from MW, and at least two night maps. On these maps have certain areas that are PITCH BLACK.

20. Limit the number of grenades people have. In fact, just as I stated earlier that grenade launchers should have a limit per match, so too should grenades in general and flashbang/consussion grenades. I just feel that people spam these too much and it leads to many fluke kills. People should be forced to use their items wisely, not spam them knowing that once they die they will get a fresh supply. 3 grenades and 4 flash/concussion grenades per match per player.

21.Replace the knifing system with gun butting. The idea that a soldier could be running full speed and in the blink of an eye reach for and pull out their knife, and slash at an enemy is absurd. However, a player reacting very quickly by smashing the butt of their gun into an opponent is much more realistic. Two strikes required for a kill. This ends panic knifing and requiring two hits gives both players a chance to react. Use a version of the BO2 combat knife, where it has to be equipped before being used, this would appease those who like to run around knifing and add much more realism to the game.

22. I like the idea found in Red Orchestra 2, where upon being shot you lose functionality of the limb/area of the body that is shot. To counteract this you have to stop and heal yourself. This system should be incorporated into the COD series. Healthpacks should be included in the flash bang tier, if you select them you have the ability to heal a crippled limb, if you don't you will have mobility issues (inability to run, aim noticeably hindered) until you die. Taking a headshot that you somehow survive should leave you with a blurry/red screen and possibly ringing of the ears. If someone takes damage it should impact their performance, not magically disappear in a matter of seconds. This would make people think twice about rushing around like an idiot, more strategic game play would result.

I'm sure I forgot some things, but you get the idea.

This is COD. It's fast-paced, full of action. All the crazy stuff is what makes COD so fun. Removing it to make it more realistic will take away the fun.

Just ask yourself, would you rather play an unrealistic game which is fun, or a realistic game which is boring? After all that's what a video game is for, to have fun and escape reality.

    • Re: My perfect COD
      DSDDE

Why are you stating that a MORE realistic game would automatically be boring? Things aren't nearly as black and white as you seem to be inferring. Speaking for myself, the changes I made would make the game far more fun to play, most of the frustrations would no longer exist. You can certainly have your opinion, but try not to speak for everyone when attempting to determine what's fun or not.

Realistic isn't always fun.  BF3 wasn't that fun foo me because it played nothing like BF:BC2.  BC2 was so much better IMO, because it wasn't as realistic.

      • Re: My perfect COD
        Tobzza

I'm not being hostile towards you. Take it easy, dude. I'm just saying. It's just that most people find COD fun because it is non-sense and not in any way realistic. Same with Halo back in the day.

        • Re: My perfect COD
          DSDDE

It just appeared that you were equating more realistic with boring, as if you were implying that everyone would agree with that. My apologies if my response seemed a bit too stern, wasn't intended that way.

    1) I agree mostly except for de-scoping when shot.  Adequate flinch should be enough.

    2) I agree, but 1.5 - 2 seconds is too much.  Just don't allow people to fire (or at least ADS) while jumping or changing stance.

    3) An option to turn it off would be nice, but I think that already exists.

    4)  I haven't noticed this, but it is kind of self-balancing if true.  There are perks for this also.

    5)  Disagree.  There is nothing more infuriating than not being able to do anything because there are 15 kinds of deadly air support raining down ordinance.  If you have a launcher, you should be able to shoot something down.  The AC130 was a little excessive with 3 flares.  If I'm the only guy trying to deal with air support, I have to die to be able to save my team.  By this time, the AC130 has earned their team 1/4 of its kills.  The game should focus on gun-on-gun gameplay.

    6)  Agree.

    7)  My idea for this is to make the grenade launcher a secondary with 2 shots.  Less people would use it then.

    8)  Or fix the spawn system so you are always furthest away from enemies and their equipment.

    9)  Akimbo should require both weapon slots.  Akimbo should also increase reload time to approx. double.  They should also fix hit detection.

    10)  Agree.

    11)  Flinch does exist.

    12)  I don't think you will find anyone who disagrees with this.

    13)  Just hide stats so nobody can see them.

    14)  I like the scorestreak system from BO2 personally, but adding perks as a scorestreak would be cool.

    15)  Sorry. No.

    16)  Not a realistic desire.  Most people have 2 speakers.  You can't pinpoint a shot location in a 3D world with 2 speakers.  This would also make suppressors worthless.  I actually want red dots to show up for a length of time depending on the volume of the gun.

    17)  I think it is necessary for the above reason.  There is always hardcore or a custom game.

    18)  I can agree with this to an extent.  But if they use scorestreaks, then a difference of 50pts. is all that's necessary.

    19)  Sure maybe.  I really don't care either way.

    20)  Limit lethal grenades to 1 per life and tacticals to 2 per life without a means to refill and I think it's balanced.

    21)  There was still a panic knife in BO2.  Something needs to be done.

    22)  I agree in the aspect that rushers need less catering, but this game is too fast paced for stopping and healing to be effective.  Most gunfights end in split seconds.  Wounds that hinder you would greatly increase the amount of "bad camping" (sitting in a corner with a shotgun not doing anything but waiting for someone to run into you).  Reduced health regen speed would be nice.

Thanks for the reply, always good to get feedback on individual ideas.

      I'll respond to some things..

      1. Curious why you don't agree with un-scoping when shot. That's how they had it in Halo 2 and I LOVED team snipers, in fact that's all I played for months and months. I never questioned why they had it designed that way, it just makes sense.

      3. In MW3 ( I keep referencing that game because 1. it's made by the same company and 2. it's all I play because I find BO2 to be pure trash) there is a master volume controller and thats it, you can't adjust sound effects, voices, etc individually. This is why I'm hoping for the change.

      4. Correct, there are perks but I shouldn't be forced to select a certain perk simply because I'm better at the game than someone else. This in a sense is a form of punishment in that it offers me less freedom than someone with less skill would enjoy.

      5. I could use your response that "there are perks for that" but I won't. I do agree that it's annoying when multiple aircraft are being called in, I believe that's what I'm hitting on when I say that FORCED teammwork needs to become part of this game. I figure if enough people are annoyed with that scenario, as you are and as I am, then they'll do something about it and start using a launcher as a secondary, or deploying SAMS. Or how about another (I know, unthinkable) scenario where people stop running around like madmen racking up death after death which leads to that type of scenario to begin with? It just seems as though rushers get the best of both worlds, they can run around as much as they want...and if they die a lot they've been granted the ability to end their punishment (killstreaks handed out) in short order. I just don't agree with that. They should have to suffer the consequences of their wreckless play. Hell, everyone else does.

      9. I like your idea about longer reload times, and having to use two weapons slots. In addition to this I'd also like to see accuracy reduced GREATLY at anything other than short range.

      11. Flinch does exist, but we've all been in the scenario where you spot someone, shoot first, and they turn and casually fire off a few rounds and take you out. Next time you shoot someone first and die, pay close attention to the kill cam and focus on their gun recoil once you start to shoot them. I've noticed that an animation of the gun kicking way back happens, but their actual crosshairs actually stay much lower, usually always on target. In other words, the cross hairs rarely leave the target even when an animation showing the gun kicking way up high into the air takes place. I'd like to see flinch increased to the point where the person who shoots first gets the kill practically every single time if their aim is on point.

      15. Any particular reason you don't like unlimited sprint? My take is that what's the point of having a perk if you aren't going to always benefit from it? I was playing a game of domination in MW3 last night, using extreme conditioning, and at several points of one match I was reduced to "sprinting" only a couple of feet at a time due to what I assume to be fatigue. What other perk in the game loses it's effect like that? Pretty much every other perk always "works" to it's fullest extent at all times. I say get rid of extreme conditioning altogether if it's not going to always remain active, it's highly frustrating using that perk only to find yourself subject to the constant run/walk cycle that everyone else has to deal with who aren't even using the perk.

      16. I agree it would make things more difficult to hear where shots are coming from. Though I don't agree that silencers would become useless. In fact I believe they could become even more important with this type of change. If unsilenced shots no longer showed up on the map, and people were forced to listen for them, a much quieter silenced shot would really help out, no? People would become accustomed to listening for loud gunfire, not the muffled sound of a near silent shot.

      20. Isn't one lethal grenade and two special grenades currently the standard for MW3 currently? Scavenger only refills ammo.

      22. Having to use a health pack could be someting done very quickly, the drawback wouldn't be the amount of time it takes but the fact that you have to select this over a special grenade. However I do like your idea of slower health regeneration.

I'll add number 23, if they bring last stand back, the player who put someone into last stand is credited with the kill regardless of who finishes them off. They fixed this in BO, but in MW3 it doesn't work this way.

      17. Viewing the minimap should only be available as a killstreak.

***** HUH? Makes no sense whatsoever.

      19. Return of night vision from MW, and at least two night maps. On these maps have certain areas that are PITCH BLACK.

***** If only COD had maps that actually resemble "night time".  PLAZA is a piece of crap. It's supposed to be night time, but it's so heavily lit that it might as well be daytime.

      20. Limit the number of grenades people have. In fact, just as I stated earlier that grenade launchers should have a limit per match.

***** These limitations already exist at a reasonable level. Unless you're hacking the game.

21.Replace the knifing system with gun butting. The idea that a soldier could be running full speed and in the blink of an eye reach for and pull out their knife, and slash at an enemy is absurd.

***** I doubt you'll see this change anytime soon.

      5. I might be exaggerating the time a bit, but mainly I just want to see killstreaks serve their purpose, a reward for doing well in the game over a period of time. To me it kind of defeats the purpose of having killstreaks to begin with if they are shot down immediately. As I've stated, I carry a stinger as my secondary on all classes, I shoot down every single attack helicopter before it even fires a single shot. That's a 7 kill streak going to complete waste. On my end, I love it, but only because I don't have to deal with it..not because I think it's fair. As I stated in my other response to someone in this thread, rushers who die a lot should be forced to deal with the consequences of their actions. If they don't like a sky full of heli's, stop dying.

      7. What I mean is you should only be given let's say 3 grenade rounds to fire off. When you die you don't get another three, the amount never replenishes. You're given 3 grenade rounds that have to last you the ENTIRE match. If you use two and die, you have one left to use after respawning. This would limit the spamming of noob tubes.

      8. I think every year we talk about "improving the spawn system". At this point in time, coming up on the 10th COD game, it's pretty evident they haven't a clue on how to implement a solid spawn system. I have zero faith that they'll ever figure it out, or even have the interest of doing so. Because of this I think it's time they end their on going experiment of finding something that works (since they clearly don't know how to go about that), and come up with a new system altogether, or at least introduce some measures that compensate for their inability to provide an adequate system.

      10. I'm not a fan of RDS, you notice recoil much more when using them, IMO. Because of that I like using iron sights and feel that it could really open up more options if you were allowed to swap out the native sights for something you preferred instead.

      17. I'm looking for a more skill-based game. It seems as though there are too many safety nets in place that cater to people with less skill. I understand that the goal is to make money, and because of that they want people to be able to pick up the game and compete immediately. I just don't agree with that. I just wish a company would take a stand and say "we're going to make this game difficult, either put in the time needed to learn to play properly, or go play something else". I feel as though the minimap offers too much assistance, I think a hybrid version of TDM and HCTDM would be very interesting to play. I don't even care if the minimap was a 2 killstreak reward, or even if they increased the number of killstreaks from 3 to 4 to account for it....I just think it shouldn't be something everyone sees immediately without earning it.

      19. Hanoi was a night map, not pitch black by any means but still night time. With these new interactive maps we're hearing about, I think it would be cool if you needed to use night vision to navigate certain areas of certain maps. Let's say night vision goggles were a piece of equipment you had to select, and you decided not to use it, would make for some intense moments attempting to sprint through the pitch black areas hoping nobody was lying in wait. There could be lightning or a flickering light in these areas to give brief moments of orientation.

WE HAVE A HATER(NO SUPRISE THERE!) If you hate this game so much play another game

    1. Anybody who hates quickscoping can't do it themselves. It is not a big deal

    2. WELL WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN REAL LIFE, JUST LET SOMEBODY SHOOT YOU?

3.If you have a problem with sound mute your tv

4.Predators were not as OP as the BO2 'storm missiles.

    5. One hit to the cockpit or tail rotor would easily take down a pave low if this was realisitic so be thankful they didn't put that in the game.

    6.Score streaks

    7.Noob tubing isn't extremely important

8.Please explain to me how you get killed by a claymore after a few steps?

    9. Haters gonna hate

    10. Play Black ops with the Iron sight attachment

    11. Impossible in real life not in COD

12.I agree that there should not be some death streaks like dead mans hand and martyroom but the rest can stay

    13. There is no point to objectives when getting spawn trapped in Demolition

    14. I agree

    15. Good job your thinking more unrealistic

16 and 17. NO YOUR GOING BACK TO REALISTIC!

    18. Ospreys,EMPs, and a Jugg would be a little  INSANE but you could have 3 of anything less

    19. That would be cool but using claymores would be impossible

    20. Grenades are no problem with flak jacket like perks I forget the MW3 name

21.Well then they may as well add bayonnettes

    22. Well that would be sinper paradise. Shoot the arm and then that player is dead basically.

I can't really respond to this seriously because it's clear you're just attemping to incite an argument. The only point I'll hit on is your laughable assertion that "people who hate QS'ing just can't do it" I think it's time that people who use this exploit realize that not everyone is interested in even ATTEMPTING to take advantage of it. I know that you would love to believe everyone tries to QS, but that's just not true. This really is along the lines of saying that people who hate hacking only do so because they can't do it. Realize that some people prefer to play the game based on THEIR skill, not rely on an exploit in the game. It's a mindset I'm not sure you're capable of comprehending, but it exists.

QSing is never going to change. It will always be there. Just need to change aim assist and hit detection to make it tougher.

You're right about that quickscoping part. People who hate quicks

coping don't try or do it themselves. But this doesn't mean you should hate it. Quick scoping is easy to dodge. Teach yourself to do so.

        LOL I'm not smart?

Teach yourself to aim a weapon on your own, instead of relying on the game to aim for you. Give it a shot.
