Just played MW3.

QwertyBoredom

And people complain about shotguns in this game? really? they should jump on that for a few games of that then come back saying that shotguns in this are are OP and shoot like snipers.

MW3 was a bad game just like MW2.  I will say that I had way more fun on MW2 over MW3.  I am so glad that I sold MW3 for BO2, even though I am burnt out on BO2.

Some people hate being killed by shotguns or expect them to perform like the AA-12 in MW3.  My avoids went up when I used to Striker and that was way after it was nerfed.  If they want me to use a 'proper gun' I'll whip out the L86 and just mow them down.

    • Re: Just played MW3.

I never really had a problem with shotguns.  I wish they were more like MW2's shotguns and the same with knifing.

        Agreed with shotguns.

Disagree about knifing. I have no problem with the knifing mechanic in Black Ops 2. Namely, it sucks, and that's the way the knife should always have been. I don't think the knife should ever be a viable option for anyone.

Heard the SPAS-12 with Stopping Power was pretty good in MW2.  In MW3 I only used the Striker and the Model but not much on either.  Wanted to unlock Damage on the Model but never got to it.

        • Re: Just played MW3.
          iivrruummii

The pre-patched Akimbo 1887s in MW2 were way much better.  The Spas had a range glitch when you added the Holographic Sight and it was beastly.

lol Spas-12/MW2 memories haha The Spas-12 with SP (or even without it) was a monster of a weapon, for any Call of Duty. The Model 1887s before the patch as mentioned above were arguably more OP, but since they got patched, the Spas-12 was easily the best shotgun (of a list of shotguns that were all ridiculously strong secondaries).

If you unlocked Damage for the Model in MW3, it would have been fun for you because I say it was a great weapon. Not MW2 like, but adding Damage (or sometimes Range) would make lots of the shotguns (even the USAS) a one-hit kill, or close to it practically every time. The trouble was just grinding through enough levels to unlock Damage for the shotguns lol

Only if maps were as large as in MW2.

I mean: the five-seven is one of the best allaround weapons in Black Ops 2 because it can hit anyone on any range you're likely to encounter enemies, firing as fast as you can pull the trigger, running at SMG+ speeds with SMG handling.

I literally cannot count the amount of times I've tripple-killed with the five-seven in scenarios where most SMGs and ARs would've run out of gas after victim number two.

        And that fantastic reload time!

  • Re: Just played MW3.
    Tick7

People just have a hard time with shotguns purely because of how fast they kill.

After the Remington 870 got nerfed, I think the shotguns have proven to be extremely balanced in Black Ops 2 - deadly up close, pretty useless at range (KSG = notable exception).

It's a good point though - the MW3 shotguns were a joke, and overall the game was just terrible; right up there with MW2 as one of the worst Call of Duty games ever made.

People shouldn't be complaining about shotguns in BO2 - rather, you should complain to yourself about how you let yourself get so close to an enemy that his close quarters weapon blew you to pieces.

    • Re: Just played MW3.
      ab36

Agreed. Really it seems like shotguns will be complained about regardless of how they are in any given Call of Duty lol (except maybe WaW?) If the shotguns overall are weak, people will find the stronger one(s) and say they're overpowered. People will say anything that kills them is OP, or because of lag (even though lag definitely is a problem) lol

Shottys always had the jump on me in MW3 even when I clearly shot first and I only played HC. That and ricochet were my only complaints, loved that game!

Great game for sniping, camping, and spawn trapping.

  • Re: Just played MW3.
    vims1990

If anything, anti-shotgunners should go play MW2 and experience the shotguns there (as secondaries might I just add).

For shotgun players, using shotguns in MW2 were glorious but understandably OP as secondaries. No COD title has come close to MW2 shotguns.

I've never understood the complaints about shotties in the recent COD titles.

Used by the minority of COD gamers yet they get so much hate. As far as I'm concerned SMG's, Assault Rifles and Snipers have been used by most players opposed to Shotguns & LMG's.

I had some kid whine about me using the S12 whilst he was using a MSMC, most commonly used by competitive gamers.

    • Re: Just played MW3.
      ab36

lol People will complain about whatever kills them. Shoot them, hear "you're using the [insert weapon here]? Get good kid" every time lol Not that I haven't thought the same thing at times though lol

I think I could go back to MW2 as I've only played a few hours.  I've already come across Danger Close and Commando and I suspect I've been in matches with One Man Army too so I know what I'll be in for.  Thought about using an LMG and use Cold Blooded.  Imagine if LMGs had noobtubes.

Anyone who might have watched Sandy Ravage using the spas on mw2 could see in the right hands what a shottie that was, however mw3 it seemed pretty lame, i am sure i read somewhere even Randy thought the same, i loved levelling up with all the shotties on Blops, but was glad i got there in the end,

    Joco3000

MW3 is probably how the shotguns in BO2 should of been like, excluding the damage and range bonuses that you could add on (I forget the actual name).

I managed to get gold on every shotgun, and I had all but the striker gold before the patch.

The 1887 in that game was glorious. Utterly terrible for consistency, but +5,000 for style.

  • Re: Just played MW3.
    thebiindsniper

MW3 was A LOT better than MW2, aside the deathstreaks, OP machine pistols, and the support strike package abuse.  IW did try to innovate with the reward system (you LOVED the specialist strike package), and they cleaned up the attrociously broken aspects of their previous title.  In addition, they gave us Face-Off and Infected--two game modes I loved.

In regards to the shotguns, they were weak at first, but the payoff of grinding them rewarded players with the "damage" and "range" profeciencies.  I loved the shotties in MW3, except the Striker...that shotgun was just ridiculously powerful and overused.

yeah the go to weapons in mw3 were good but not totally stupid like they are in 2025, shotties were dangerous but you had to be skilled to use them in mw3, i sucked with them lol but in 2025 they are OP weapons of epic death as are the snipers its a bad joke.

I disagree with that my friend.  You didn't need to be "skilled" to use the Striker or USAS. As for the rest, you just needed steady aim and to keep out of long sight lines.  I wouldn't say that the BO2 shotguns come even close to an MW3 shotgun with DAMAGE equipped.

As for the snipers, the 2 most used in BO2 do not compare well at all to the 2 most used in MW3, the MSR and the Barrett.

        • Re: Just played MW3.
          belly120

yeah but the maps meant the shotties were simply far less potent.  i rarely ever rage quit caused by excessive snipers or shotties in mw3 this game i rage quit all the time due to cheap ass shotties or OP snipers quick scoping the pants off me.  again i'm not saying the weapons in mw3 were perfect or that QS didn't happen but the maps tended to offer alternatives to you that made them less lethal this game is dominated by cheap weapons and the tiny maps make it even worse.

          • Re: Just played MW3.
            WKMMS

I try not to blame the weapon my opponent is using.  Most of the time, when I die in a gunfight it's because I made a mistake (or because lag comp didn't want me to win the fight)... All of the guns in this game kill so fast that I have to assume that It wouldn't matter what gun the other guy had, he'd still have beat me that time.  Of course, some people use cheap tactics (headglitching, camping corners etc) and that does annoy me, but I try to keep that annoyance from turning into rage because I only end up playing worse then.

Every weapon and playstyle has a tactic to counter.  Work on finding the best way to deal with the players that bother you or you have difficulty dealing with.  Quickscopers a pretty easy to deal with because they are predictable - they always want to be in the same spots on the map so it's easy to flank them.  Shotgunners don't want to be out in the open so they will stick to high traffic CQB areas. Try to control your engagements to put you in a stronger position.  That will often mean having to completely change how you are playing, sometimes you will need to rush hard and sometimes you will have to hold back and be much more conservative.  As soon as you start getting pee'd off with it though, either stop playing or go chill out in combat trainining where nothing matters a damn anyhow

            QwertyBoredom

Wow, your seriously saying that BO2 has cheap weapons and small maps and MW3 doesn't, do you have selective amnesia? MP7, FMG9, Type 95 (this one is arguable), USAS12, Striker.

  • Re: Just played MW3.

Ok. So this is my first post, and since pump action shotties have always been my favorite weapons throughout the cod series, i thought id put my 2 cents in.

MW2 had the best (and probably as good as they ever will be) shotguns in the cod series. So this is how it is, if your dead center on your target, it'll be a one shot kill. All it takes is just a millimeter off target and it'll be a hitmarker.MW3 and blops 2 shotguns aren't like this, there too random/inconsistent.

Now given the R870s a beast of a shotgun(and the best one we've had in a long time) its still not reliable enough.

No one really complained about them in MW2 because why? EVERYTHING WAS OP, and OMA noobtubes literally broke that game. MW3 shotties were just bad....(except for the striker of course) but they were pretty much pointless when you could use a mp7,pp90,p90 and do more damage.

this is why they complain about shotties in blops 2, because they actually play there roll this time around and it stands out as a OP weapon because of the map design. All it is is people in the moment of anger raging over the shotties and calling it a noob weapon when i guarantee you these people have never used one religiously, if they stuck with it for 10,000 kills i bet there opinion would change.

i love the pump actions and will continue to use them no matter how bad they get, i just love the feeling of rushing in and clearing out a room with one.

And before you hate and call me a noob i leave you with this...

I can do the same with a SMG,AR,LMG or a sniper. I just prefer to use a shottie.

    • Re: Just played MW3.
      adw1983

MW2 also had good maps, for the most part, with some distance on them.

Shotguns HAD to be able to hit people on some of the ranges presented in the game.

Take the Spas 12 to any BO2 map -- and you would not need the snipers for "long range one hit kills".

      • Re: Just played MW3.
        belly120

lol yeah but in this game these tiny low quality maps have created 60% of the problems.  small maps full of head glitch cover and sniper points has pushed the damage and range spectrum to close together which has nerfed the game play

  • Re: Just played MW3.
    codchamp

I just straight out hate shotguns period. it is not the class but there have been a fe that should not work the way they do.

The biggest offender is from MW2. The spas was absolutley the most op'd shotgun i have ever seen. You could almost snip with that thing. yes there were problems with the dual models back then, but they were patched.

MW3 had the stryker. It was op'd only with damage on. But could be countered from a distance.

Blops 2 has the remington. Not as bad as the spas from MW2, But very annoying to play against.

The only annoying shotgun in MW3 was the striker in this game it's the 870 only for me because the fact the spread is so wide you never have to aim it.

USAS was the tits! The Model was probably the most fun to use though.
