Some scorestreaks are just to costly...

devidog_kyle

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else feels like some of the cheeper scorestreaks aren't cheap enough? I am finding it very rare to have the enemy use some of the basic scorestreaks such as the CUAV, sentry, guardian, stealth chopper, and hellstorm. It's not like I am playing against noobs, most players i face are a average kd of 1.0 - 1.9. It just doesn't seem like some of them are worth using due to ease of disabling such as the sentry and guardian, which can be taken out by one emp. The stealth seems kinda useless on half the maps due to ease of avoiding it or shooting it down. I am going to compare to older games for a few of these. UAV was 3 kills now its almost 5, CUAV was 4 now 6, sentry was 5 now 8, stealth will be compared to attack chopper which was 7 kills now 11, and the hellstorm will be compaired to predator missle which was 5 kills now 7. I am very aware of how the scorestreak system is suppost to work but I don't feel like some of the lower streaks really are worth it. The CUAV use to be one of my favorite streaks to use, but now doesn't feel effective for it's price. At the start of the game the uav was "spammed" or called it to much, well now that most of us have ghost and/or the smaw, black hat, fhj-18, it shouldn't be an issue to lower the cost. I do miss the rush of having to fight the enemy streaks along with the enemies. I honestly don't feel like it is worth running half the streaks i have mentioned, I don't. Thanks for reading the rant and fire away.

You just have to camp out a little. I put on high killstreaks for the first time today(dogs, swarm, VTOL) and my friends and I have been getting them all night. Just don't rush until you get a VSAT in the air. If you play with friends, have everyone run VSATs and once one person gets one, everyone can get theirs, and the train goes on. Playing solo however, just run the lowest 3.

You are absolutely right, and that's pretty much what I have adopted. I just wish that the scorestreak cost were reconsidered. They may look at how common the streak may be used, but do they look at how effective it is to the players, or how much it will benifit the player to run that streak?

Only noobs and Thunder cry that streaks are too hard to get.

Not going to lie, getting scorestreaks in TDM/FFA is extremely difficult with the scorestreak system which is why I stick to objective game modes where objective pursuits (collecting dog tags, capping/defending flags etc) towards scorestreaks is easier to achieve.

If you're having trouble with scorestreaks in TDM, my advice would be to switch to Kill Confirmed. It's the closest game mode to TDM. I don't see the score per kill being changed in TDM  considering Vahn wanted TDM to be more "barebones" ("gun on gun").

    • Re: Some scorestreaks are just to costly...

this is pretty spot on .   Plus, TDM games are over in a hurry on most maps, so anything more than  sentry gun/ Stealth Chopp. not really worth going for  IMO.

as for orig. post,  i think it's pretty well balanced cost for streaks.

i'll say  Emp grenades are TOO devestating vs. guardian / sentry gun.     i keep a class w/ engineer n EMPS , game over.

C  UAV   and death machine also too expensive.  ( later being  a piece of junk )

stealth choppers are prettyy darn nasty . i average 4 - 5  kills each time i get one.  Escort drones are the **** though. got 12 kills once with just one of those lil babies !

Heh.  I don't mind TDM as it is but it does appear to be over too quickly so if they upped the winning score to 100 while the points per kill remained at 100 score I wouldn't mind or just have a time limit.  The VSAT is usually my highest streak selected in TDM.  Even if I get to it the outcome of the match is often already decided and it's just a question of how long it has to be up in the air before it's over.  As there are no objectives to protect, there are also fewer items for EMP grenades to destroy, further lowering scoring possibilities.  I tend to run Counter UAV/Sentry Gun/VSAT.  Counter UAV because enemies may sacrifice a launcher, or only have them in a backup class, because of the low invovlement of streaks and barely anyone uses Hard Wired, the Sentry Gun because people don't really use EMP grenades since the nerf to Bouncing Betties and I can move it to confuse enemies after it gets a few kills, and the VSAT because it doesn't have a hard counter whilst not overly ambitious to get.

I suppose if they want to be total gun to gun they could have a community game mode that prohibited lethal and tactical equipment.  3arc games tend to have less of a focus on streaks than IW ones and they are more powerful overall in IW games I guess.

Agreed, either increase the winning score from 75 to 100 or increase the score per kill to 125. I'm fine with either.

I've watched a number of good TDM players who are capable of getting high tiered streaks but by the time they achieve it, the match is over once they call it in.

Personally, the highest streak I've ever achieved in TDM is a Dragonfire which takes approx 10 kills to get which I'm sure we know doesn't deserve that many kills to achieve. It's more than a Reaper in MW3 which is more devasting in terms of firepower & kills in comparison to a Dragonfire

Objective game modes is a different story. On a number of occasions, I've achieved an Orbital VSAT just by capturing flags in Domination, no killing with my weapon.

          Joco3000

Isn't the Dragonfire the exact amount of kills as the Reaper (9)?

I feel killstreaks are more rewarding in TDM, as I think they change the game more due to the fact there are no objectives (Other than killing).

My current TDM setup is UAV, AGR and VSAT. When I do get the VSAT, which is more often than I'd expect but nowhere near as often as I'd like, it is sadly near the end of the match (Around 50-60 kills. I've had a few around 30 though)

I wouldn't mind having a Perma-Hardline in TDM though. I like the score limit how it is though, as on some of the larger maps it's rare for the game to get to 75 (In my experience). Heck, I've had the game time out on Highjacked more than once before.

  • Re: Some scorestreaks are just to costly...

As you point out, Sentry guns and Guardians are pretty much useless, you are lucky if they last more than a couple of seconds, the same with the AGR. They've also nerfed the Guardian in HC, making it almost useless (way underpowered to be of any use). Stealth choppers are usually taken out in the blink of an eye as well. I'm not complaining though, not using any of them anyway, but those scorestreaks seem pretty useless in my eyes.

Streaks are perfect in TDM and I would prefer if they were set up like TDM's in every game mode. Streaks are way too easy to put together in OBJ games. 8 kills and confirms for a VSAT is nothing. Scorestreaks was a good idea but it's not implemented correctly.

It seems to me like some are too high, but to tell the truth I am to chicken to find out. I am to

accustomed to using UAV, HK, and Care Package. I would like to use the sentry and guardian, cause the idea of the enemy getting cooked to death pleases me. I just won't take that chance.

Getting streaks in TDM can be difficult. However in Kill Confirmed, the rate at which you rack up points (assuming you are actually bothering to collect tags) harks back to TDM. 3 kills and confirms will net you a UAV, 4 for a CUAV and so forth. And in all honesty, KC isn't that far removed from TDM.

  • Re: Some scorestreaks are just to costly...

The only people that complain about NOT getting high score streaks in TDM are the ones who fully DO NOT UNDERSTAND how to get them. Yes, by itself a UAV costs 5 kills. However if you equip engineer and EMP grenades you can get one with one kill or less. I litereally got 800 YES EIGHT HUNDRED POINTS to start a match on raid in HCTDM within the first THIRTY SECONDS by having engineer and EMP grrenades. I saw that the kitchen was lit up like a christmas tree with shock charges, betties/claymores etc and tossed ONE EMP grenade over there and destroyed SIX equipment (300 points) and my team killed FOUR enemies that were hit with it (200 more points) and I got three kills because the enemy had spawned in our garage. I use scavenger with ALL my classes so I had more EMP grenades and lobbed them to where the enemies might be, get hitmarkers and everytime they die I get assist points. I had a stealth chopper up in under 1:30, the Escort drone was up right behind it, and then my lodestar. Under 3 minutes of gameplay and these were out causing devastation.

In previous game the ONLY way to get KILLstreaks were kills, now EVERYTHING you do gets you points. If you are one of those players that have to run 4-6 perks, or 3 attachments on your weapons to give up EMP grenades or tacticals, this is YOUR problem, not the players (such as myself) that know how to use the stuff to your advantage.

Why scorestreaks sucks on TDM compared to Objectives.  I play a lot of ground war, so it hops around of course. Captured C, tossed an emp at B, tossed a C4 for 3 capture kills, cap B, toss an emp at the the A roof campers on Domination on Plaza last night led to starting VSAT, Lodestar, Swarm combo without firing a bullet.  My first EMP cleared me 350 points at the B point, the second at the campers roof picked me up 300. I wasn't even a minute into the game and had the VSAT rolling.  Next game TDM on Yemen 9 kills to start the match and nothing when I got killed.  Just doesn't add up.

Yup, people don't understand that you need to try and get points in other ways. I once got a Lodestar with only a bloodthirsty medal.

  • Re: Some scorestreaks are just to costly...

Disagree, I would rather see less score streaks on the map..

  • Re: Some scorestreaks are just to costly...

As a player who is not very good (aka I suck), I would love to be able to use the higher kill streaks.  But I'd rather play the probabilities and run HK, Hellstorm, Lightning Strike while playing HCKC and running around like an idiot.  At least I might get the HK twice during a match.

Lowering the amount needed would cheapen the scorestreaks.  I'd rather see a return of the Support Scorestreaks from MW3.  I earned 1,000 kills with the Stealth Bomber but it would take me decades to earn 1,000 kills from the Reaper.

The bottom line is that "a man's got to know his limitations".  If you will never let the dogs out, then don't equip them and either work hard to get better or accept the facts.

      Ellixander

the last thing I would want to see is another mw3 support stealth bomber, still have nightmares about 20 being called in in one game before but each to their own

guardians and sentries can just feed the enemies points with engineer and an emp nade

got to say rcxd or dragonfire tie for worst both are a guaranteed death the way the spawns work in this game I find I get more kills with the non lethal pointstreaks uav cuav and vsat (even if i dont get the vsat at all) strange

  • Re: Some scorestreaks are just to costly...
    PandasRpeople2

Agreed that streaks can be very difficult to get in TDM.  My typical setup is to run Hardline with UAV, then either CUAV or Lightning Strike, topping out at Stealth Chopper or A.G.R.  With Hardline equipped and assuming you get a fair number of assists from UAV/CUAV, you can get Stealth Chopper at 8 kills rather than 11 which is much more reasonable.

I actually like TDM with the scorestreaks being harder to get, mind you.  I like being able to focus on gunplay and only see an enemy Stealth Chopper once every five matches or so, to say nothing of anything worse.  I like not having to switch to a Blind Eye/FHJ class except for the once in a blue moon that someone gets a VTOL out of a lucky care package.
