Consistent Inconsistency?

nicedrewishfela

Noticed something about my own game today and wondered if anyone else out there has the same issues. It seems lately that the only thing that has been consistent for me is my inconsistency.

Allow me to explain. Played today, had nobody on my friends list when I jumped on. Played my first match  of HC TDM with randoms, went even. Jumped into a friend's match and ended up on a team opposite him and a few of his Clan members on Interchange. As I came in late, ended up negative but got the winning kill for my team. From that point on, it was a crazy day. I was either at the top of the list or not successful at all. One streak went like this-

First match- 23-12 on Dome, including a crazy run at the beginning of the match where I was something like 16-2. (Scar-L with Red Dot and Launcher (working on my challenge))

Next match- 2-7 on Piazza (We had left the previous lobby to change a class, I was playing with two friends of mine I had picked up) Same setup

Third Match- 16-6 on Liberation (Ran around with a silenced ACR Sniper hunting )

Fourth match- 17-11 on Seatown (Silenced G36 using Specialist)

Fifth Match- 7-15 (ouch, nothing seemed to work on this one started with Scar-L with ACOG/HB, then M4A1 with Red Dot, finally ACR with Red Dot)

Sixth and Final match- 18-3 on Mission (Scar-L with Acog and HB as I was working on both challenges)

Today was one of my better days, more positive than negative, but I can't help but notice that when I do well, I seem to do very very well. But when I do poorly, its G-d Awful!

I think, analyzing my own game, that one of the reasons for my insconsistency is that I am an average player. My aim has never been outstanding and while my strength is my age and experience, that sometimes adds to my disadvantage as my eyesight isn't fantastic and my reaction time isnt what it used to be. I sometimes play when I am just too tired to be effective.

But sometimes there just doesn't seem to be a reason. Take the second dome game, where I went 7-15 (as bad as that sounds it wasn't bad compared to how I started out in that game). My aim was on target, but it just seemed like nothing worked for me. I got numerous hit markers, spawned into fire and got fired on around corners several times. My best guess is that its just a combination of poor decision making on my part, the inconsistent connections this game has, and, dare I say, just running into better players.

Wondering if anyone else runs into this? Do you have games where you can do no wrong followed immediately by matches where you feel like you've never played this game before?  For those who are able to have success consistently, what kind of constructive advice could you offer for those like myself who experience this kind of up and down play?

I used to run I to that sort of thing a lot when I used to only play HC then I started playing core and it stopped. After a while I tried HC again but it was the same. What I think it is, is the lag issues coming into play with the hit detection because of how easy it is to kill in HC. If you come up against someone in a 1v1 situation I honestly think the victor is the one with the better connection at that moment in time.

Needless to say I no longer play HC because of this.

Thats a pretty good point. I do think that factors into it more on this game than it ever has before on CoD. It really seems that so much is dependent on the lobby I get into, and like you pointed out, HC is not quite as forgiving as Core is. You take damage or fire, you are more than likely going to die without the benefit of Health Regen. Combine that with the Ricochet factor, I have to be doubly aware of where my teammates are.

I think part of it for me is the fact that I like to experiment with different setus and work on challenges. I have a few fall back classes just in case things go south, but I like the challenge of trying new things.

Some of it could be down to adapting to different weapons but I think it may be a small %.

I used to play HC HQ pretty much exclusively on blops and I didn't have any of these issues probably because I was host 95% of the time.

Ahhh richocet my old nemesis. That pesky lil sob has killed me so many times. It would have awesome if they only had it on SnD and had the kick function from blops for the rest of the game modes but that's totally off topic sorry.

All day every day. It seems when I start winning, the game throws tougher and tougher compitition against me until I have no chance at all.  I can go 34-10one game and then 5-15 the next bc the other team has 3 guys who have 40+ kills on it and all average 290pts/minute in general.  The better I do, the more likely I will be completely worked over. That, and bad players back out if you own on them, and a clan will likely take their place. I have no clan and being a random is a rollar coaster.

I suffer the same thing but I haven't tested my connection extensively after I reset my router just a few days ago. I only have 1 game of TDM today and it seems like it's fine. I haven't experience the dreaded rubberbanding which seems to dog me in the past few weeks. I'll play a couple of games more and report back.

I was wondering, maybe you are hosting during those games where you're having a hard time breaking even?

I generally do better when I'm host which pretty much contradicts what everyone else experiences which is random.

I went 11-10, 19-6, and 27-2. It's against the same bunch of people and it's kind of inconsistent. I was dying too quickly on the first game and I had a hard time trying to stay positive. The second game was okay and the last one seems like I'm half a second ahead of my enemies.

Edit: I just played again and I rubberbanded. I was lagging and I don't know what to do anymore. I already reset my router and it's a hit or miss with the lag.
